Horse Trade Theater Group Internship Opportunities


Horse Trade is always seeking motivated and energetic interns to assist in planning, organizing, and running our season and our winter resident festival, FRIGID New York. We are a small staff, and we rely on interns year-round as a vital part of our organization.

This is a great opportunity to be exposed to all aspects of theatre production; interns are involved in various areas of operation from technical to marketing, from house management to literary management.

Ideal candidates are self-motivated individuals with a desire to learn, a desire to work hard, and a passion for theatre. Must be versatile, reliable, and flexible. This internship provides an entry into the downtown indie theatre world ideal for early career or recent graduates.

  • Aimed at rising college seniors, recent college graduates, and graduate students
  • A semester-long commitment, 15-20 hours per week
  • School and resume credit available
  • Unpaid
  • Interns may attend all Horse Trade readings, salons, special events, resident company and co-production shows for free

Administration
           With a marketing focus
  • Social networking for HT shows and events using Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr
  • Creating and sending two monthly newsletters
  • Proofing press releases
  • Website data entry from website archives
  • Setting up and maintaining online ticketing with SmartTix and TDF
  • 3 office shifts weekly: answering phones, taking payments, taking rental requests, scheduling rehearsals, filing, etc.
  • Assisting the office manager as needed

Literary
  • Reading script submissions and writing coverage
  • Maintaining submission log
  • Sending responses to submissions
  • Attending readings around the city and writing coverage
  • Attending shows around the city and writing coverage

Volunteer Coordination/Front of House Management
  • Volunteer outreach
  • Training and scheduling volunteers
  • Covering box office shifts
  • House managing HT productions and festivals
  • Creating and facilitating pre-show speeches in conjunction with resident artists
  • Creating and printing programs with resident artists
  • Audience development

Technical
  • Space maintenance
  • Light plot maintenance
  • Sound equipment maintenance
  • Board operator
  • Construction projects

Special Projects (as available)
  • Festival (offered winter semester)
  • Education
  • Development (grants and sponsorship)
  • Stage management
